Secret Project Revealed

I am very excited to finally reveal to the diceRolla community the results of a secret project that I've been working on for most of the past year. Sorry to have kept so many of you in the dark about this while all the behind-the-scenes stuff was going on, I thought it would be more appropriate to keep quiet until everything was in place. So it now brings me incredible joy to introduce you to my newest gaming and painting buddy, Oswald Montgomery Jones!

Little Monty!

Ozzie (or Monty for you fans of The Simpsons) was born earlier this week on Monday and then my wife and I adopted him on Wednesday. Hopefully this explains at least somewhat why I have not been blogging as much as I used to. I've been rather preoccupied these last couple months. ;) With all that we had to do in order to become eligible and qualify for the adoption, I've had less time than usual for hobbying and blogging, though that was certainly a trade-off I was more than happy to make.

We'll be staying just across the border in South Carolina for the next couple of weeks as we await the legal authority to travel across state-lines with our new baby. During this time I don't have a lot to do other than taking care of Ozzie and our now three year old daughter, Cassidy, who is by the way very happy to be a big sister. :) Therefore I'm optimistic that I'll be able to post a few more times over the coming days about some of the gaming that I managed to squeeze in recently. Also I have with me a small stack of wargaming rulebooks to read, so if everything goes alright I might be able to review a couple of them as well. Of course I'll likely be delirious from a lack of sleep but that's never stopped me before.... Here is what I have on hand to help pass the time:

5150 - Star Army
Larger Than Life
Adventures in the Lost Lands
Strange Aeons
Von Unaussprechlichen Kulten (BETA)
Fear and Faith
Pulp City
Heavy Gear Blitz!
Songs of Our Ancestors

If anyone is particularly interested in hearing more about any of these games, let me know and I'll put it (or them) at the top of the list for examination and discussion. I've already started testing out Strange Aeons and so far I'm thoroughly enjoying the game. It feels like it was written especially for me as it hits all the right buttons, being a skirmish-level game based on the Cthulhu Mythos, and I suspect that it will become a big part of my hobby life once things settle down again. Therefore I'll likely start the reviews with Strange Aeons unless someone would prefer me to begin elsewhere.

Okay friends, that's it for now. If you want to check out the beginning of what promises to be a cool series about another secret Mystery Project (and one that is actually intended to benefit fellow bloggers too!), you can go check out Thor's blog Creative Twilight. Here's the link for that: Mystery Project WIP. So until next time, happy painting and gaming!!

I just found this odd, but some of my friends just adopted a baby boy this last week as well.

  3. Congrats!

Strange Aeons does sound interesting. I heard a few bits about it on earlier Jaded Gamercast episodes and think I saw some after action reports online somewhere.

  4. Congrats on the adoption, your going to help that young man live a great life and become something to be proud of. I know many that has adopted and my wife and I talked about it as well.

Well, I am a sucker for Strange Aeons (hides his blog)as one of my favorite indie games. Pulp City has some interesting aspects to it, like to learn more.

    1. Wow, thank you very much styx... I really appreciate that. I'm honored, thank you. :)

And thank you also for all the extra info you've posted about Strange Aeons on your blog and for pointing me to the Lead Adventure Forum. I still need to register there and become active with the SA community. As for your blog I can hardly wait for the time when I can really give it the attention it deserves, that your working on new scenarios for the game is simply awesome! I'm also eager to find out more about Pulp City and will make sure I report on it as soon as I can.

      Thanks again, styx!!

    1. It's great to hear from you, Frontline Gamer... thank you, thank you! Along with all those rulebooks it looks like I also have a lot of reading to do to catch up with your own blog. I'm about halfway through your interview Rob Lane and I'm really digging it. Thanks for providing such engaging material for us to enjoy. Best wishes to you, Frontline!

  9. Wow! That's awesome news, congratulations!

As for the gaming posts, hmm? Both Star Army and Strange Aeons have made their rounds but weren't given their due in my neck of the woods, so maybe start there?

    1. Right on, Mik! Thank you very much!!

I'm kind of surprised Star Army didn't catch on with your group, I know I've certainly enjoyed reading your 5150 batreps. (Oh and your Star Port plans are ace, can't wait to see how it all turns out!) Still I remember you saying the rules might need a little tweaking here or there depending on preference. I'm really excited to give the system a test drive and to report on how I like it.

By a happy coincidence, Star Army and Strange Aeons are the two out of that list I'm most interested in, followed closely by Pulp City which styx mentioned in his comment above. Thanks for the help, I think I've got a plan of attach now. :)

Best wishes to you Mik, and thanks again!!

  15. Congratulations old friend. I was about to make some snarky comment about your newest Spawn of Chaos, but then I realized you bought me all of those jokes!
Welcome to the land of Man Defense Parenting, no more Zone defense for you, sir.
I hope you can get across the border and back home soon.
I'll give you a call later one today.

    1. Hahaha!, thanks DrG! I had forgotten about those Spawn of Chaos remarks and whatnot... oops! Sorry about that. :) Yeah it looks like we're going to have to learn a whole new defensive scheme. Damn, it was nice getting to rest a little while playing zone. And I guess running out the clock isn't an option either when the clock has "18+ Years Time Remaining" on it. Oh my, that made me feel exhausted just typing that.

I'm looking forward to hearing from you, buddy. Along with parenting tips we need to talk Adepticon strategy too as I have decided to designate you my representative champion for the Killzone event. No pressure... all you have to be is "Best and Fairest." That's not asking too much, is it? Now go get 'em!

Thanks again, Gabe!! Give my best to the family, as well as to the drunken band of miscreants whom you call your teammates. ;)

    1. Haha, thank you Porky! I always appreciate your good cheer. :) Also I have been really enjoying your participation in this month's A-Z challenge. I apologize for following along silently, unfortunately it has been difficult for me to leave comments on other blogs while I am away from home as my internet service here is turning out to be quite unreliable. Nonetheless I am thrilled to read all that I can at the Expanse! whenever time and bandwidth allow me that luxury. Thank you again, Porky!!

    2. No trouble. I'm having a lot of fun with the A-Z, even more than last time, and just knowing you might be dropping by makes me happier. Hang on in there.

    1. Oh wow Colonel, thank you so much for checking in on me! Over the last however many weeks it's been (months? I don't even know) I feel like I've been in a time warp. My wife and I have been crazy busy even beyond coming home with a newborn as we had to jump right into some lingering issues with our house that had to be dealt with before Summer. That's done now and we've never been better, but getting here has taken some work. I apologize for not getting back here sooner though it's only been the past few days that I've finally started to feel like myself again. Having a baby in the house has reminded me how truly precious sleep can be! :)

The whole family is doing extremely well. My wife is on cloud 9, my daughter loves being a big sister, and I am a very proud and happy Papa. Ozzie is healthy, happy, and strong too. And just a few nights ago he even started sleeping through the night relatively uninterrupted which has his mom and I delighted. :D

Now that our domestic life is resuming its usual harmonious groove I hope to get back to the hobby stuff this week. I've spent the past couple of evenings cleaning up my hobby desk in anticipation of getting some painting time in the next couple of days. I'll be sure to post an update and get blogging again as well... I've missed it!

Thanks again for dropping by today, I really appreciate hearing from you. I hope everything is well for you too. Best wishes, Colonel!!
