Mountain Warfare

And........ I'm back.

Hello and welcome to the start of a new era for this blog. Well it's not really so dramatic as that I suppose, this is just my first post since moving in to my new home in Asheville, NC. Hooray! My family and I have now lived here for a full month and we are exceedingly happy with our new surroundings. Rather than live in the city itself, we're actually located just a few miles north in the town of Weaverville, on the side of a mountain at an altitude of 2400 feet. Having spent the last decade at sea-level, it has been an exciting experience so far adjusting to mountain life. Driving here can still feel somewhat frightening at times, but otherwise everything is going swimmingly.

My goodness, though, how time flies! I can hardly believe it's been six weeks since I last wrote anything for this blog, and it has been even longer since I had any productive hobby time too. It's taken longer than I thought it would to get settled in, and indeed there is still unpacking left to do, but at this point we've done enough around the house that I can begin thinking about spare time again. Ah... spare time. :) Therefore this weekend I hope to start painting again and I should be able to return to my regular (i.e., erratic and random) blogging habits as well. That's the plan at least, yippie!

I am by the way very eager to become reacquainted with all of my favorite blogs, too. I have not been able to keep up with everyone's hobby activities as much as I would have liked over the past couple of months. Nonetheless I assume it's been quiet around the old blogosphere during my absence from it. Surely there have been no significant changes or controversies concerning our hobby, nor any upheavals or customer revolts of any kind during that time.

Right...?

Regardless I am thrilled to be back and look forward to sharing lots of wargaming hobby goodness with all my readers. Thanks for sticking with me, I appreciate your patience and continued support. Mahalo!

  3. You posting again makes me realise what we've been missing. Good to hear all is well. It sounds like a wonderful place to be, and the calm of being able to settle in must make it even better.

  5. @ Da Masta Cheef - That's fantastic news, Cheef! I had a feeling these mountains would be home to grots. Time to bolster my northern defenses... Thanks, Masta Cheef!

@ Loquacious - It really is wonderful here, I'm very grateful that things worked out. Best wishes, Loq!

@ Porky - All of the recent tumult has certainly made me grateful to once again have a feeling of home. While enjoying that sense of calm and peace, one thing I greatly look forward to is catching up with your explorations at The Expanse. I am quite eager to find out what you discovered. Thank you very much, Porky!

@ Rich - Haha, I had meant to post at least a few other times during that six week period. If nothing else I should have added a short update about what was going on, but oh well. Sorry about that... kinda dumb on my part. I hope you've been doing really well though, thanks!

I do plan on getting back to work on the Raptors. I started work on another batch of them in the final couple of weeks before moving from Charleston but then fuzzed them all with a lousy primer coat. I was really frustrated by that and so decided I would set aside any further work on the Raptors until after we had finished moving. They're now one of the projects I'm most excited about painting. I want to try out the FW decals that I have for them very soon.

Thanks again, Rich, best wishes to you!

  6. great to see you back! It must say it has been some what dry reading without your posts. Unfortunately, I too am now in the middle of a moving and settling down experience, although its not quite as flash as moving to a beautiful mountainous area. No instead I'm moving from the stunning nation that is Wales back to my homeland of England. Oh well, at least ill still be in the Midlands (that's the best part of England!), oh and I'll have money for the first time....mmmm delicious money!

Good luck, and I look forward to reading your future contributions!

  7. Best of luck to you as well with your move back to England, I hope everything turns out great for you. So you're moving and you'll have some money, too.... Does this mean you've finished school? Congratulations whatever the cause of your good fortune, well done! :) As always it is a pleasure to hear from you, Smurf. I hope you're able to quickly reestablish a happy routine for yourself and can begin enjoying some of that $$$. Best wishes!

  8. Thank you dicerolla, those are very kind words. You're sentiments are always very touching and uplifting.

I'm starting a PhD and a different university. I have spent the last 5 years in Aberystwyth where is completed my degree and MSc. Now I'm moving on to Leicester to complete another 4 years of research. It's exciting but also very daunting having not actually lived in the city before.

As you say, I will establish a routine fairly quickly I hope. I'm usually pretty good at making friends.

  16. Definitely! I'm excited to return to the Raptors and have a lot of ideas for them. I'm starting to plan out how I will model their special character from IA9 and hope to begin work on him soon. I'll of course post pictures and updates along to the way for the Badab project. Thanks, Silar!
