Meanwhile these are going to be busy times for me over the next several months. I don't know for certain how this will impact things on the hobby front though I imagine there will inevitably be less free time to spend on my miniature wars. With AdeptiCon looming at the start of April I've decided I need to take a more organized approach than I normally do in order to have everything finished in time. This weekend I'm going to review and assess all the projects I have underway and come up with some basic priorities for them. I believe this will also be useful as I begin considering what hobby plans I want to focus on in the coming year.
These past few days have however turned out to be rather unproductive as Father Nurgle has continued to bless my household with his gift of the flu. It's therefore been a little painting here, little painting there type of week. Slow but steady progress at least and I have also been working on army lists for the Raptors to give me a sense of direction. Right now I have some spare minutes in which to paint so I'll catch up on that other business later. There's power armour to paint... bye!
Awesome. Hope you all feel better and the move works well! Asheville is still like three hours away from me but a lot more possible than boonies SC...
ReplyDeleteWhen we both get them finished we'll have to engage in a Scythiak vs. Blisstonian throwdown.
Count me in, that will be a great match-up... haha, either way Papa JJ would be on the winning side! Also that's good motivation for me to build up Sector 7G some more and finally get it painted, too. Thank you, sonsoftaurus!
ReplyDeleteMoving is always a headache, but it sounds like a good thing, good luck. Also, those Raptors are looking awesome, thanks for the pics.
ReplyDeleteGod, moving is the thing I hate the most. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteI agree with SAJ, your army is really looking sharp.
I'm with the others - moving can be a pain, especially at short notice. Hope it goes comfortably though. Get well soon too, one and all.
ReplyDeleteThese Raptors look really great!! This army is going to look great when finished! Great job!
ReplyDeleteThe minis are coming onand look good mate.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the move announcement and hope you guys pick up after this flu.
Hobby reassessments from time to time are useful, and can provide a good starting point to launch you into a new year.
Looking forward to seeing more of 7G as well.
Pom
How exciting, JJ!I know you were talking about this a few months back- I'm glad it's coming to pass without a lot of headache.
ReplyDelete@ SAJ - Thank you very much, I really appreciate that! I'll be sure to keep posting pictures as this new army project develops. Thanks!
ReplyDelete@ Thor - Haha, thank you for that. And I'm sure this move is going to be a blast, what could possibly go wrong? Thanks, Thor!
@ Porky - Thank you, good sir! I'm thankful that moving to Asheville will at least not be some long, drawn out affair. Thanks again, Porky, I hope to bounce back soon.
@ Mihalis - Wow, thank you so much! I'm still nowhere near your league but it's wonderful to know I can make a great painter like yourself smile a little. Thanks, Mihalis, I really appreciate it!
@ Rogue Pom - I'm definitely looking forward to getting back to 7G, I still have lots of plans on how I'd like to expand it. I expect to have more hobby space after the move so that should remove some of the current struggles I've run into building up this terrain collection. Thank you, Pom, it's great to hear from you!
@ Loquacious - I'm still feeling a little overwhelmed right now but I'm sure that will pass soon once we start making real progress in getting ready and packing. But otherwise I am really excited and think it's going to work out very well for me and my family, and the less headache the better! So far so good... thank you so much, Loquacious!
I don't know about the gaming in NC, but I live in Tennessee and you can always come play over here. We have a gaming group that goes all the way from Knoxville to Johnson City. It's a bit of a drive from Asheville... hour to JC, little more to Knoxville :) http://www.tnwargamers.com/ Come check us out.
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome, thank you for the information. I don't think I'd mind driving a ways in order to play some games and an hour or two behind the wheel doesn't sound bad to me at all. Here in Charleston it takes me more than a hour to get to a gaming store I don't even like, but I still go! I appreciate the link and letting me know about your gaming group, I'll be sure to come visit once I've settled in after the move. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteYour models are shaping up nicely! Love the highlights on the edges and how the silver matches the green. All the best with relocating!
ReplyDeleteTake care my Friend!
If your gonna put the devz in a transport give them a razorback with twin linked AC.
ReplyDelete@ Bartender - That's wonderful, thank you so much! I too like the way these colors are coming together. This is quite a relief for me as I've started on many project only to discover later that the scheme doesn't work or that I simply do not enjoy painting in such a way. I am hopeful that everything will go well with my transition to a new home, thank you. Take care as well, I appreciate it!
ReplyDelete@ Derina - I love those tanks, twin-linked assault cannons just look so cool! I'm looking forward to trying out that configuration of Razorback as I have never used it before. As for these Devastator marines, I do intend on giving them a squad transport but am planning on sort of a different approach. I'm going to write a post explaining my plans for this army that will make all of this clear. There will be room for the Razorbacks, but also a lot more as well. And I'll still need plenty of help once I start posting army lists. Thanks, Derina!
Good luck with the move! I'm in Hickory (only about an hour away), so if you're having trouble finding a game, look me up... maybe we can do a collaborative battle report for the blogs or something.
ReplyDeleteJason, I forgot to mention there is a Rapter chapter master in the book, and give FW an email to chase your book.
ReplyDeleteGot some wip photos up
ReplyDelete@ Josh - Thank you, that sounds like a lot of fun. A collaborative battle report would be awesome, that's a great idea. I'll be sure to get in touch once I'm settled in after the move. Thanks, Josh!
ReplyDelete@ Derina - Good advice, I'll send them an email to find out if there's any news. Since it's overseas I don't know if my order is trackable, I just hope everything is okay but this is longer than I've ever had to wait before. Chapter master would be nice, especially if his rules are decent though I won't count on that. Those WIP pictures look really good, nice to see the progress you've made with your own Badab project. Thanks, Derina!
Woa! Good luck with that reckless movement! And get well soon ;)
ReplyDeleteI hope you'll have more gaming days in your new location!
BTW, your army is looking cool!
I'm liking the skin from those marines, you should tell me the recipe =P
Wait!
ReplyDeleteDid you re-style your blog? When did that happen? It's so calming...
I have to second Nesbet's comment. The skin is the best bit. Definitely draws the eye.
@ Nesbet - Thank you, friend! Reckless is a good way to describe this, it definitely feels like a crazy ride for sure. I'm an optimist, though, so I'm confident everything is going to work out fine and that I'll be in a better environment for both my family and my hobby. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm happy you like the way these Raptors are turning out, I am as well so that I've now expanded considerably my plans for this army. Thank you very much! I'm actually in Asheville right now and am having trouble remembering exactly what I did for the skin tone on these miniatures. I'll check when I get home as all my paints are lined up on my desk in the order in which I used them. I believe it was Tallarn Flesh over a black undercoat, followed by a wash of Ogryn Flesh, then Midlund and Ryn Flesh (both P3 paints). The last couple of steps are the ones I'm not sure about but I'll look into and let you know.
Thanks, Nesbet!
@ GDMNW - Haha, I keep tinkering with the setup but for the most part it's looked this way since I started the blog. I'm really happy however to hear that it has a calm feeling to it, that's pretty much the ideal for me. Thank you so much! One of my main goals has been to keep this a low-key, low-stress type of place so it's very satisfying to think that feeling is being conveyed. :)
I'm glad the way I painted the skin on these miniatures turned out well and looks good with the rest of the color scheme. Thank you for encouraging me to stick with this method. Now I just hope I can recreate it for the rest of this army... oh my, I do need to take better painting notes. Thanks again, I really appreciate hearing from you!
Yeah, let me & Murl know when you get settled in. Murl's in Johnson City, and I'm a half hour north of him in Bristol. We're both also members of the TN wargamer's forum
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the move! I moved to Toronto myself back in August, and I'm still adjusting!
ReplyDelete@ Da Masta Cheef - Awesome, I'll definitely get in touch. Thanks!
ReplyDelete@ Atreyu@4:44 - Thank you, I wish you best of luck as well! I hope your new hometown feels very comfortable for you soon, the times I've visited were all wonderful experiences. Thanks!
Any news on your Transfers and Badab War vol 1?
ReplyDeleteHere in the uk they have 21 days to get it delivered or face a pissed off me.. saying I want my money back. or send me another copy.

Sentery gun in desert camo in IA Vol 2
According to FW everything has been sent already and because it's an overseas order, unfortunately there's no tracking on it either. I talked to the manager of the post office yesterday and only managed to annoy him so I don't know what's up. I placed the order on the 14th of November so it's been about two weeks longer than my orders normally take to get here. I'm going to try FW again to find out if there's anything else I can do.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to hear things went alright with getting your wisdom teeth taken out, I remember being pretty miserable for a while after having mine removed. I hope you recover quickly and feel better soon... until then I hope you like soft foods! Best wishes and thank you for the additional info about my space marines, I hadn't realized they showed up in so many IA books. Thanks, Derina!
Hey Paps,
ReplyDeleteRegarding your slow parcel delivery issue, I have a number of outstanding packages travelling down to Oz from both the UK and US. Normally I can expect a parcel to take around 2 weeks, but some I have been waiting on for 5 now (some are tracked so I can see they're not lost (yet)).
I think the postal service in most countries is really stretched this year (especially nearing xmas), especially the UK with the recent crazy weather they have been having. I've heard stats of warehouses full of millions of parcels that have yet to be delivered which have been delayed as a result of weather and backlog etc.
I know its not a lot of consolation when you are waiting on something, but at least you know its not a one off incident.
I have seen reports recently regarding the significant growth in online goods ordering, and increased traffic in parcels/post globally, but a lack of improved/increased infrastructure to support this growth. This holiday season might act as a wake up call to the various national and corporate postal services to prompt them to diversify and improve their core services to their client base - ie figure out how to deal with large influx of post and deliver said post to the right person in x amount of time (x = their service standard).
OK rant/waffle over.
All the best Paps.
Ok.. I have an Idea, if the stuff ain't there with you in January give ma an email and in the words of Boldrick "I have a cunning plan Mr J." oooh I did a Harly Quin.
ReplyDeleteand soon I'll post up for you the chapter master stats. As soon as the other 1/2 stops stuffing his face.
@ Rogue Pom - I do appreciate that very much, thank you! You're always welcome to rant here, especially considering that was probably the most reasonable online ranting ever. : ) It's a good reminder for me that I'm not the only one in this boat, I had completely forgotten to take into account both the busy time of year and the cold winter our British friends are already enjoying. I suppose I should cut them some slack and stay optimistic about it all... 'Tis the Season and all that. I hope everything you're waiting on arrives quickly and safely for you as well, I appreciate the sense of perspective you've given me. Thank you, Rogue Pom!
ReplyDelete@ Derina - Ooooh, this sounds like it could be quite interesting. I'm grateful you're willing to help me out, that's very kind of you. Okay... we'll give them to the new year before enacting your cunning plan. I like this, it feels like a game of intrigue now. ; ) I've been curious about the chapter master, thanks for taking the time to relay so much of this information to me as I wait on my copy of the book. Thank you, Derina, your help has been tremendous!
Ok the plan is if it dont arrive email me and I'll send you my address so they can ship it to me, then I will send it via Royal mail Recorded internatinal signed for to you.
ReplyDeleteOh wow, thank you! That's very kind of you to offer to do that for me, I'll be sure to let you know if the book arrives before then. Otherwise it's a great relief knowing that we have a fallback plan now, I'll be more than happy to work it out so that you're not having to do this at any expense to you. Thank you, Derina!!!!
ReplyDeleteIf you have any biker heads I'd like to have them as I want all my assault marines to have comms.
ReplyDeleteCool, I'll check around my bits as I pack things up for the move. Even if the shipping issue works out okay you're welcome to any biker heads I can find. Take care!
